SCANNER DECEPTIONS

At one of the local stamp clubs yesterday we did a project to etch metal. My first disc etched quite well (Shirley Temple like disc) and the second one etched fairly well but the disc did not turn a shiny gold. It was rather dark so I thought why not fill in some of the etching with acrylic paint. I experimented and finally liked what I had done; however, the discs were not bright and shiny so I added a thick coat of Glossy Accents.

After the Glossy Accents dried, the discs looked like they had a film on top so I peeled it off and of course, the colors came off with it.

This time I added mostly gold acrylic paint to the girl disc and white and metallic brown to the oriental disc.

RESULTS: In the first scan, the discs actually look quite good because the scanner picked up some beautiful colors. But when I held them in my hand, they did not resemble the photo at all.

When I scanned them a second time, they are indeed bright and shiny and the gold and white acrylic paint lightened the oriental disc.

CONCLUSION: Try, try again. Need more perfection in the etching department to get the desired outcome. It was fun to try and a real learning experience

Hi Carolyn,
You have seen some of the things I have etched, and it is a lot of fun. It is a trial and error thing. I'm going to try again and will let you know the results
