Oops, I forgot

This card I made for my youngest son. I had him do some shopping for me and then forgot to send him a check. When he was a little boy, he would ask me to do something as I was rushing off to work and quite often I would forget. One morning he asked me again to do something but this time he said, "Hold out your hand." He proceeded to put a sock over it with the comment, "This will help you remember."

I have never forgotten this and my recent forgetfulness brought back one of my fond memories of raising our children. They do have a way of putting us in our place.

Framed violinist

This was a very fun card to create. I started by embossing the background with the dotted swiss Cuttlebug embossing folder. The frame and little girl playing the violin are both from Inka Stamps. The floral frame was cut out and placed over the little girl image. The card was bordered in pink and the string of beads added for dimension.

Image Transfers

I have always been intriqued with image transfer techniques and wanted to do a transfer to glass using one of Inka Stamps collage images. I actually trimmed the image and transferred the stamp first near the top rather than the bottom and then trimmed and transferred the little girl image. The printing on the ribbon is in silver as is the border around the main image. Unfortunately, silver doesn't photograph well.

Inka offers numerous ephemera images and also will print custom orders. If you don't see the image on her web site, just email her.

Another Resist

I've been having so much fun with my cuttlebug embossing folders. This is one of the wax resist cards I put together; and, again I bleached out the stamped design and recolored it.

I hope some of you will try this as it is a lot of fun. You don't need an embossing folder to do this technique. Just wad up a piece of wax paper into a ball, flatten it back out and iron it to glossy cardstock. Stamp your image in black India ink and when dry add color. If the image is lost in the background, bleach out the design, like I did and recolor it.

arte y pico award

Joanne Wardle and Inka Heaton from Inka Stamps both awarded me the Arte Y Pico award.

When I was first nominated by Joanne I thought I really don't deserve the recognition and then forgot about my obligation to fulfill the requirements until Inka nominated me this morning.

First, my apology to Joanne for dropping the ball and not continuing to pass this award on to others.

I am humbled to think that each of you would put my name in the hat, so to say, and I am honored. So it is time to follow the rules which are:

Being nominated for this award prompts me to thank others who have inspired me along the way and there are so many it would be impossible to name them individually -- first, the members of the Oriental Stampart Group who supported me from day one when I had to ask, "What is a RAK?" Secondly, the local gals, my friends who meet monthly to compare, share and support one another. AND, to Inka and her Design Team who welcomed me with open arms -- what a driving force they are and their talents are unbelievable. I couldn't be in better company than with those who love to create and share their tools and expertise with me. How fortunate we are!

Another wax resist

Over at Club Posh the members have been experimenting with their Cuttlebug embossing folders and wax paper. Previously, I had run the wax paper inside of an embossing folder, ironed it on top of glossy cardstock, added color then stamped the image. Today, I decided to try Vada's technique published in the April 2008 issue of Technique Junkies. She stamped her image first on the cardstock and then ironed the wax paper over the stamped design.

For the above card, I used a Helen Briel texture plate in place of an embossing folder and ran it through my Wizard with the wax paper. However, after ironing the wax paper on top of the card and using my brayer to add color, I decided the gingko leaf got lost in the background. Thus, I bleached out some of the color and used transparent watercolors to highlight the leaf.

I have one last experiment using embossing folders; however, it is going on top of another project so I'll wait and share it when my project gets completed.
