Highly Textured Background

I submitted this card to VSN for their March issue so I didn't want to post it to my blog until the March issue was published. The card didn't make the magazine per se but it was included in the art gallery on line. So here it is for friends and family to view. I love this card because of the ephemera Inka Mystic fairy . She seemed perfect for the background.

Magazines, in particular those that represent the stamping industry, prefer submissions that incorporate some stamping. This card focused on the background and actually had no stamping with the exception of the texture plate for the background effect.

Weekly OSA Challenge - Confucius

The theme for this week's challenge at OSA is Confucius. This is the card I created using an image from Inka Stamps along with a background and verse created with PhotoShop. The circle in the center is a rub-on from Far East. Wouldn't it be great if everyone did the right thing!

Something different

I altered a postcard for the lantern challenge at OSA. The card was an announcement and event schedule (reverse side) for a bamboo art and crafts event. I added some peel'n stick lanterns, embellished with orange ink and red glitter and added the verse, "Good Fortune." This card was just too pretty not to use in some way and came to me from my good friend, Julie, in Taiwan.

A few more February projects

At our monthly Friday Stamp Club, each member altered a heart shaped box and we had a drawing to distribute them. The box you see is Inka's and I was the lucky recipient. Inka also made cards for each of us so I uploaded her card as well. Unfortunately, she had a family event and was unable to attend. We missed her!

Below is the box I altered. I painted mine pink.

More Valentines

The collage image for this card is "Token of Love" from a sheet provided by Inka Stamps. I used a Cuttlebug folder along with gold foil for the border and gold foil over an embossed cardstock for the larger white border. I've been experimenting a lot with the foil and some turn out better than others. You never know for sure what you'll get or how the foil will adhere to different papers, metals, etc.

Valentine pendants

These are duplicates of the pendants I made during the holidays -- same technique just different design. You can purchase the blanks from Crafters Cafe, click on link to the right of my posts if you are interested.


I also made a Valentine tag or an ornament that could be hung if desired. We are going to make more of these at stamp club tonight as my project. Each month, two of us present projects and direct others how to duplicate them using their interpretation of the process. It will be fun to see the results from others.

Valentines

I've been working on Valentine cards the last few days. This one was created using the pattern from my friend, Wendy, in Scotland. She sent me a Christmas card and I was so enthralled with the design that I left the card on my desk to use as incentive. Here is the result.

Sweet Fragrance Valentine Card

On February 14th, Inka will offer a new collage sheet -- perfume labels. She allowed me to download the label used on this card; however, my printer did not match the actual gold hue that you will see when she puts it up on her web page. So I hope you will check it out on Valentines Day because your order for this sheet will match the actual colors.

I also used two of her rubber stamp images -- HAPPY VALENTINES DAY and the other from the Word is Poetic #1616, Fill my Days.

The Cuttlebug folders are another favorite of mine and the swiss dots worked perfectly for this card.

For the bottle, I trimmed one of the labels and inserted it so that the main image would be in the front. One year for Jim, I inserted red hearts in a bottle before I attached it to his card. Valentines Day is special and we certainly need an outpouring of love to offset world challenges.

Oriental Mercantile Card

The image I used for this card also was selected from the Classified category sheets from Inka Stamps. However, for this background I included some of Inka's background images from her Patterns and Elements #2551 and her Floral Poet #6532.

This was another fun image to work with.

Textured Acrylic Backgrounds

Over at Mixed Media Trends, we have an ongoing monthly workshop (optional) to create a digital piece of art using the designer paper of the month. I created the designer paper technique for February using heavy textured acrylic paints along with washes, Perfect Pearls and texture plates.

Using one of the backgrounds I created, I put together this card using one of the images from

Inka Stamps

from a collage sheet called Play Center.

The background was textured with a rubbing plate set into the thick acrylic paint and gold Perfect Pearls were brushed over the design. The image was adhered to German scrap wings and the large gold brads were added as embellishments.
