Digital ATC Challenge

I have been playing around more with PhotoShop and finished a small workshop at Mixed Media Trends and our final challenge was to create an ATC incorporating the four lessons from the workshop. I used a photo I had on my computer for a long time of an oriental group of geishas and extracted one of them for the focal point. For the sun frame, I altered a design by Heather Taylor (need to experiment more with this one) and the caligraphy was from a design by Yoshiko Utsunomiya. Both the butterflies and the foilage were brushes.

My personal challenge is to figure out a way to put Washi paper designs or paper backgrounds into the sections of the frame. My method of adding color was cumbersome and I know there is a better way. I tweaked Heather's beautiful frame mainly because I changed the shape so much to fit my card.

It is time to quit playing and get on with some serious card making;I have two birthdays this weekend and a swap to get ready.

Thanks to the two designers and to Cindy Powell who presented the workshop and wrote up the lessons.

easy peasy! Scan a piece of washi at 300 dpi or above, and use the mask I provided with the template (drag it into your scan). Double-click on the scan layer so that it no longer says background, then drag the washi layer above the mask. Making sure your washi layer is highlighted, press alt+ctrl+g, and watch the washi conform to the mask pieces! To make them easier to move around afterwards, you can press ctrl+e (or right-click, merge layers). Just make sure you save it as something else, or you might lose the original mask!

I think it looks beautiful just as it is. You can use Heather's instructions on the next project ;)
